The Chairman of Guard Time Information and Human Rights Activists Nationwide, Mr. Bibi Oduku, has officially appointed Barrister Alice Wowuota Iwara as the new Head of Women and Children Affairs for Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
In announcing the appointment, Mr. Oduku praised Barrister Iwara’s passion for women’s empowerment and her steadfast commitment to the welfare of children. He emphasized that her expertise and dedication make her well-suited to lead human rights initiatives concerning women and children throughout Abuja and its surrounding communities.
Responding to her new role, Barrister Iwara expressed deep gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility. “I am deeply honoured and humbled by this appointment,” she said. “I am passionate about protecting the rights and advancing the well-being of women and children, and I intend to use this office as a platform to drive meaningful transformation.”
Barrister Iwara outlined her focus areas, which include promoting policies and initiatives that safeguard the interests of women and children, ensuring their voices are heard, and defending their rights. She further assured that she will carry out her duties with diligence, integrity, and unwavering dedication to positively impact the lives of women and children in Abuja and beyond.
“As part of my activities in this role, I intend to launch strong advocacy and awareness campaigns against rape, domestic violence, and child abuse,” she explained. “I will work to establish support programs for survivors, create empowerment initiatives that help women achieve economic independence, and collaborate with relevant agencies, law enforcement, and NGOs to ensure justice and protection for victims.”
Barrister Iwara also emphasized the importance of community engagement and policy advocacy, stating her commitment to building safe spaces that uphold the dignity and rights of women and children across the Federal Capital Territory.
Her appointment marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to champion human rights and enhance the welfare of vulnerable groups in Nigeria’s capital city.
