A tragic incident occurred in Ogun State, Nigeria, where suspected assassins killed a religious leader, Yomi Adetula, during a worship service Adetula, the Shepherd-in-charge of the Celestial Church of Christ in Idiroko Border town, was shot dead by six gunmen wielding AK-47 guns, all clad in the same Celestial Church’s garment.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants stormed the church, located at the Odo Eran area of the Old Baggage Road in Idiroko, and rained bullets on Adetula while he was preaching. They waited to confirm his death and dismembered him inside the church before leaving the scene.
Adetula was also the Idiroko Unit Commander of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-SAFE Corps), a community security outfit established and funded by the Ogun State government.
The reasons behind the attack are still unclear, but it’s reported that Adetula had been having running battles with a smuggling cartel in Idiroko Border town, which led to the forced closure of his church in December 2024
The State Commander of the So-SAFE Corps, Soji Ganzalo, has confirmed the incident and promised to assist in the investigation and arrest of the suspects.
