Residents of Itele – Aiyetoro communities in Ado Odo Ota local government area of Ogun state have raised alarm over abandoned road project in the area.
According to our correspondent, the findings showed that the road from Ayobo Lagos inward Aiyetoro mopol junction, a boundary between Ogun and Lagos states was facilitated by the senator representing Ogun west senatorial district, Senator Olamilekan Adeola since 2023.
The residents of the area commended Senator Adeola for the bold step taken to re-construct the road which though falls within his consistency has been neglected for years but his efforts to reconstruct the road was aimed at making life more bearable for the people.
But unfortunately the project has been stopped since October 2024 with no hope of continuity and completion of the said project as the site engineers have moved all their equipment one after the other away from the construction site.
One of the residents, Madam Tolani Sobeku said that when the construction of the road started, people were very happy and full of hopes that the road that has been the major problem hindering vehicular movement and business activities would be a thing of the past.
She said that residents were surprised to see the neglect of the road which has caused untold hardship to the people in the area.
According to another resident, Chief Mojeed Subaina explained that the recent raining season has turned the area into pool of water that has made the road impassable for both the motorists and residents passing the area.
A business owner in the axis Mr. Sunday Aileru told our correspondent that when the road construction started, the drainage constructed by individual business owners were demolished for the new drainage, unfortunately after the demolition of the initial drainage by business owners and community members with the hope of constructing a new drainage, it was unfortunate that the construction job stopped, and this has caused untold hardship on our businesses, because whenever it rains erosion enters our business premises.
Our findings also showed that the abandoned Mopol Junction section of the road has caused not only untold hardship to the people but has also affected movement of goods from one community to another.
The residents also complained bitterly of possible outbreak of diseases that may be injurious to the people because it may later turned into dumping site of refuse.
The residents however called on Senator Olamilekan Adeola, the facilitator of the project to come to the rescue of the communities by completing the construction of the road so as to save an impending calamity that may likely befall the residents in Itele- Ayetoro areas.
