The Asiwaju of Orile Imo, High Chief Olakunle Olalekan, has called on the Ogun State government to quickly intervene in an alleged suspension of his chieftancy title as” Asiwaju of Orile” orchestrated by Olu of Orile Imo, Oba Reuben Sogaolu and his traditional councils.
Olakunle who appealed to the government for Intervention on Tuesday during a press conference, disclosed that his chieftaincy title was given to him during the reign of the late monarch of Olu of Orile Imo in 2018.
He posited that the move of Oba Reuben Sogaolu to withdraw his chieftancy title was to create chaos in the town, urging the state government to intervene.
Olakunle who is also the Chairman of Baales in Councils of Orile Imo maintained that the said Oba still has court cases against his Obaship validity, adding that he has no authority or right to suspend him from his chieftancy title as “Asiwaju Orile Imo”
He boasted of being the Asiwaju of Orile Imo; he has contributed more to the town’s development, calling on Sogaolu to focus more on development rather than using his office to treat his subjects
Recall that the Asiwaju Orile Imo was among the contestants for the Obaship stool before the emergence of the current monarch.
According to him” I want to appeal to the Governor of Ogun state, as usual he is a man of the people to intervene to prevent the looming crisis in Orile Imo, and caution Oba Reuben Sogaolu to stay off from suspension being of his chieftancy title to avoid crisis in Orile Imo”
“We know that the Governor is a Prince. He knows the rules and regulations of tradition and customs. We don’t want a crisis in Orile Imo. It is unjust for the monarch to just wake up one day and decide to suspend someone of his chieftancy title. ”
“I remain Asiwaju of Orile Imo, I have been installed as Asiwaju of Orile Imo since 2018 during the reign of late Oba Olatunji Olubiyi (Soloko1) there is veto power of minus Chief to install or remove anyone of their chieftancy, even in the chieftancy law of Ogun State 2001, Coronate Obas only have a little chance than the Baales. So they have no power to remove or install anyone of their chieftancy title”.
“I urged Oba Reuben Sogaolu to equip himself with more knowledge by ensuring that he promotes unity in the town, facilitates development instead of threatening his subjects with his chieftancy title”.
Also, speaking at the conference, Baale of Kajola Chief Ayinde Gbadamosi, who spoke on behalf of not less than 40 Baales at the conference, urged Oba Reuben to halt his move to suspend High Chief Olakunle Olalekan’s chieftancy title as “Asiwaju of Orile Imo”.
Also in his position the Youth leader General of Orile Imo Chief. Jimoh Olorunsogo also kicked against the monarch, adding that all the youth in Orile Imo are fully in support of Asiwaju of Orile Imo.
Meanwhile, the Orile Imo traditional council had earlier issued a suspension in their resolution to suspend High Chief Olakunle Olalekan as Asiwaju of Orile Imo with effect from August 12th 2025 signed the Balogun of Orile Imo Chief Isiaq . A. Adesanya
