The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has initiated a comprehensive enforcement exercise across the state, aimed at improving compliance with tax laws and enhancing the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, revealed that the operation, which began earlier this week, specifically targets corporate organizations, business premises, and institutions that have consistently neglected their tax responsibilities despite multiple notifications and reminders.

“Tax payment is a civic duty and a crucial source of funding for essential government services such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and other public projects,” Olaleye emphasized. He called on business owners and organizations to regularize their tax records with OGIRS.

Speaking through the Zonal Controller for Ota Zone, Mr. Godwin Okpandu, the agency reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and improved service delivery. Okpandu assured that enforcement activities would be conducted lawfully, respectfully, and orderly, with the goal of fostering a more compliant and revenue driven state.

Meanwhile, the Zonal Controller for Ijebu Zone, Mr. Adebola Sorunke, praised the cooperation of taxpayers during the exercise, describing the initiative as largely successful. He reaffirmed OGIRS’s determination to sustain enforcement efforts alongside ongoing taxpayer education and engagement programs.

Mrs. Bosede Opawande, Head of PAYE and Compliance at OGIRS, urged taxpayers to meet their obligations promptly, highlighting that timely tax payments are vital for the agency to meet its revenue goals and support the socio-economic development of Ogun State.

The enforcement exercise marks OGIRS’s renewed effort to ensure greater tax compliance, which is crucial for the state’s continued growth and development.
