A swift operation by the Ogun State Police Command has resulted in the rescue of three commuters kidnapped on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The police also fatally injured five suspects during the rescue operation.
According to the public Relation Officer Odutola Omolola said that the incident occurred on January 25, 2025, when unidentified gunmen set up a roadblock near Ilishan, Ogun State, and abducted three commuters from two vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, promptly directed a covert operation led by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit. After locating the kidnappers’ hideout, the police engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the fatal injury of five kidnappers.
The police recovered one AK-47 rifle, ten rounds of 5.6mm calibre ammunition, ₦5.2 million suspected to be proceeds of crime, and three mobile phones from the scene.
The rescued commuters, Bolaji Bilesanmi, 65, Olasunkanmi Idowu, 50, and Mohammed Salisu, whose age is unknown, were reunited with their families.
The Commissioner of Police has reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Ogun State, warning against criminal activities, particularly among young individuals seeking financial gain through high-profile crimes.
